AN EVOLVING MULTIMEDIA DATA BASE FOR INTEGRATION OF DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION.

The Discover Project is being developed by Len Albano and Guillermo Salazar.

Funding is provided by grants from the Davis Educational Foundation and the Structural Steel Fabricators of New England.

Our Mission

The Discover Project is a computer-based multimedia database that is being developed to support the integration of selected undergraduate courses in the areas of structural engineering and construction management.

CE 3010 Structural Engineering
CE 3006 Design of Steel Structures
CE 3020 Project Management

The database will be used for sharing term project activities, jointly selected, in the above courses.

In addition to drawings and specifications for a common term project, the database will contain background information related to structural design, construction schedules, and construction cost estimates in order to support the selection, evaluation, and application of alternative solutions.

The intent is to provide an environment for introducing the students to the multidisciplinary aspects involved in the structural design and construction of buildings. In perspective, such an approach may be used to share information across different fields of civil engineering.
